Ever since I was a kid, I have always been into spooky stuff. Growing up my favorite authors were Stephen King, Dean R. Koontz and Agatha Christie. I read all kinds of books but the horror and mystery stories were my favorites. I enjoyed the horror maze and magic mirror the most whenever we went to theme parks. My favorite past time was to watch horror films on television at my parents or grandparents home and go see some more horror films at the movie theaters too. Some of my favorites of these films that I can remember are: Friday the 13th, Chucky – Child’s Play, Halloween, Candyman, Elm Street, Poltergeist, Shining, Rosemary’s Baby, Dracula and the list goes on and on. And one of my favorite TV shows ever was Buffy the Vampire Slayer which I watched all seasons more than once and had it in my DVD collection.
When I made my thesis film graduating from Istanbul Bilgi University, I attempted to make a thriller based on Bluebeard fairytale and named it “Forbidden Door.” After many years I directed another short horror film called “Escape Room”
Aside from reading, writing, watching and making horror, I also always liked to dress up. Masquerades have always been fun for me. I enjoy being someone else for a day. In the past years some of my favorites were; Alice in Wonderland, Queen Bee, Cruella, a French Maid, Harley Quinn and there is many more that I can’t remember. This year I have something in mind but keeping it as a surprise.
This year I enjoyed the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and I went to the Afterlife experience. It was a pop up museum in Hollywood. It was fun to walk around and see the decorations and characters. They made a nice little after life passport and immigration section. Then we saw characters dancing with music, guests taking pictures. My favorite sections were the little dance in the SOUL TRAIN with soul music and psychic lady telling our fortune. I did enjoy the sandworm and all spooky art around as well.
We also went to the LA Haunted Hayride in Griffith Park the other day with my friends. I also had a friend who works there and her job is to scare people being one of the creepy characters. First we get on a ride and went through it with colorful lights, fogs, scares and spooky music. Afterwards of course we got lured into the food and drinks section which followed with several horror mazes. Not a lot scares me but there is a few things that gives me the jumps. There is something fun about being scared. Maybe after being afraid for our life for a moment we appreciate being alive again. It’s nice to laugh and say ‘Oh I thought I’d drop by heart right there but here it is still beating on my chest.” Or whenever we feel like we are about to lose our minds out of fear. “Ok false alarm, just got really freaked out all is good again.” It makes you feel brave and it’s a nice group experience. I enjoyed the psychic lady and special effects which was the very last spot of our hayride tour.
I recommend both of these attractions. I have never been to Universal Horror Nights before. I am going to be going to that one soon and tell you about my experience with that as well. I do recommend both of these fun attractions although I still prefer to spend some time in nature where everything is natural. And I miss the real haunted houses of the Prince’s Island.
